Nemean Lion – This fine art seascape photograph was captured at Bronte Beach, Sydney, Australia, on a beautiful spring morning. Powerful offshore conditions brought in large, clean waves that were breaking with rare perfection – forming ideal shore breaks along the beach.
I used a slow shutter speed to create a surreal, dreamlike effect as one of the waves crashed over a sandbank. In that moment, the wave took the shape of a lion’s head, inspiring the title.
In Greek mythology, the Nemean Lion was a fearsome beast with golden fur that no weapon could pierce. Its claws were said to be sharper than any sword, and it was ultimately defeated by Hercules using only his bare hands. The lion became one of the most iconic creatures in ancient legend – a symbol of raw power, resilience, and heroic challenge.
